Well known for great surfing waves, the dark, nearly black , fine, volcanic sand beach of Playa Hermosa fronts the Hermosa Palms neighborhood.  Playa Hermosa is one of the premier surfing beaches in Costa Rica.  Guests at “Castillo del Mar” (Hermosa Palms - Casa 72) can rent surfboards and boogie boards from the Beach Club Manager.   Also available for use is an oceanfront pool (private entrance) to the public beach and ocean.

Playa Hermosa is a home to a turtle beach reserve where, primarily, the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle may be observed.  This turtle is famous for massive group nestings called arribadas and is protected by a Costa Rica government conservation group.
